Portable Air began in 2011 as an online retailer of portable air conditioners, evaporative coolers and fans, shipping to households across Australia. Over more than a decade of selling and supporting these machines, we learned the category inside out: which brands stood behind their warranties, which units genuinely cooled the rooms they claimed to, and which features people actually used after the first week of summer.
In 2026 we stepped back from direct retail and turned that experience into what you see today: an independent buying guide. We research the Australian market, shortlist the products worth your money across cooling, heating and air quality, and link you to the current price on Amazon Australia.
How we make money
When you buy through our links, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. The commission is the same whichever product you choose, so we have no incentive to push one model over another — our only incentive is to be right, so you come back next season. We never accept payment from manufacturers for placement or reviews.
How we choose products
Our shortlists start with what fifteen years of customers taught us, then get cross-checked against current Australian owner reviews and independent testing. If a product stops being available or starts disappointing buyers, it comes off the site.
